Expanding the boundaries.
From 4 to 8 November 2015, Istanbul (Turkey) hosted the 49th international conference TOD – Turkish society of Ophthalmology. This traditional annual conference with a wide geography, is usually held in the Sunny province in the country – Antalya. This year the conference was held in Istanbul Congress Center, located in the heart of Istanbul – Taksim. The conference was attended by not only the ophthalmologists of Turkey, but also many Turkic republics, countries of Europe, Asia and America. The number of participants this year reached 2,800, with about 200 of them were from other countries.
As usual, the conference covered a full range of ophthalmic disciplines, including issues of diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the anterior and posterior segment of the eye, ophthalmooncology, neuro - and pediatric ophthalmology.
In the scientific part of the program presented more than 200 oral presentations, 1100 electronic poster. Interest was the section "live surgery" and the video session. Guests of honor - the leading experts of the world of ophthalmology - Jose Benites del Castilio (Spain), Anat Loewenstein (Israel), John Marshall (UK), Quan Dong Nguyen (Vietnam), Theo Seiler (Switzerland), Professor B. Malyugin (Russia) - submitted programmatic reports to the conference.
Leading researcher of the Department of surgery of the cornea and lens Usubov E. L. from the Ufa research Institute of eye diseases was presented:
- oral report "Intrastromal complete corneal ringimplantation combined with corneal collagen crosslinking" (Implantation of intrastromal corneal rings in combination with corneal collagen crosslinking)
- e-poster "Transepithelial corneal cross-linking for ectasia" (Transepithelial crosslinking of the cornea when ectasia).
The conference was organized by a section of practical exercises, where doctors with the help of simulation of ophthalmic surgeries could learn key skills in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery. There were also scientific sessions of the Society of Ophthalmologists of Turkic-speaking Countries (TCOD), whose ranks are joined ophthalmologists from Bashkiria.
Traditionally, the conference was an exhibition of modern ophthalmic equipment, instruments and pharmaceutical products.
As always, the conference proceeded in a friendly atmosphere. Part of ophthalmologists of our Institute in its work helped to create new opportunities for our ophthalmology school at international level.
