XIII Congress of the European glaucoma society of ophthalmologists - 2018 Florence (Italy)
1 head of microsurgical Department of the Ufa research Institute of eye diseases PhD of Khusnitdinov I. the delegation of ophthalmologists from Russia took part in the XIII Congress of the European glaucoma society of ophthalmology, which was held in Florence (Italy) from 19 to 22 may this year. The Congress was attended by over 2,700 people from 87 countries.
The Congress was held in plenary sessions and satellite symposia, which were organized simultaneously in several halls. Exhibition of medical equipment and products of pharmaceutical companies was presented by all major manufacturers equipment and medicines for ophthalmology.
Most of the exhibition and lectures were dedicated to the surgical treatment of glaucoma. Considerable attention was paid to the so-called microinvasive glaucoma surgery (various surgical manipulations on the angle of the anterior chamber with the help of tools and devices that perform access ab interno). It was emphasized that such techniques may be effective only with elementary or too advanced stages of glaucoma.
A separate Symposium was dedicated to non-penetrating glaucoma surgery and trabeculectomy, which remains the "gold standard". P. How (UK) has listed the practices that improve the safety and efficacy of trabeculectomy. Among them — the correct use of antimetabolites, the use of adjustable scleral sutures, maintaining during the operation of the normal depth of the anterior chamber, the hermetic closure of the incision of the conjunctiva, as well as effective fight against loss of filtration in the postoperative period.
Thus, the XIII Congress highlighted the main trends in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. However,it remains clear as many unresolved problems associated with this disease.
