Two days at the National Youth theatre of Belarus took place become already traditional international scientific-practical conference on ophthalmic surgery "East-West 2013". It was organized by the Ufa research Institute of eye diseases with the assistance of the Academy of Sciences RB, the Ministry of health of the Republic and several Russian public organizations of eye doctors.
As always, began the conference with "live surgery" broadcasts to the great hall revealing operations that are conductedleading specialists of Ufa, Moscow and Ekaterinburg. The greatest interest of the audience in the theater of hundreds of ophthalmologists were shown for the first time in Russia new technology cataract surgery using a femtosecond laser. At the conference for the first time in Russia held a visiting session of the Presidium of the society of ophthalmologists of Russia, composed of all the leading specialists of the country. Many of them made oral presentations in the plenary sessions and satellite symposia, participated in "live surgery".
The conference was held and the meeting of the Association of heads of ophthalmologic clinics of Russia, uniting chief physicians, Directors of institutes and clinics. They discussed organizational issues.
The high activity showed by the delegation of ophthalmologists of Ukraine and Uzbekistan. A large group of doctors arrived from the Kazakh research Institute of eye diseases. From Moldova was visited by leading specialists of the Republican clinical hospital.

"East" was presented at the conference not only scientists from neighboring countries. Real scientific session held in the University of the Japanese city of Chiba. Their development showed seven Japanese professors headed the Department of ophthalmology and research vision, Vice-Director of the University clinic, Professor Shuichi Yamamoto. Some of them dealt with such urgent topics as the regeneration of the retina.
Indian colleagues presented oral reports and participated in a live teleconference Ufa - Chennai, during which the ophthalmologists of the two countries exchanged the latest achievements in the field of treatment of eye diseases.
From the "West" were four professors and doctors from Germany, made presentations on modern methods of treatment of eye diseases in adults and children. Professor R. Korff and his team of surgeons and operating nurses revealed new approaches to the treatment of glaucoma. Leading ophthalmic surgeon University hospital Swiss city of Basel Professor M. Grishaber lectured on the same subject.
For the first time in Russia the staff of the Ufa research Institute of eye diseases held a meeting at whichpresentations were presented in 3D-format.
All conference participants heard about a hundred reports, held a competition for the best poster presentations.
Traditionally, the foyer was expanded extensive exhibition of medical equipment and drugs, the scientific literature.
We talked to some of the participants of the international forum. Doctor of medical Sciences, head of chair of eye diseases of medical faculty of Russian peoples ' friendship University and head of the Department of ophthalmology of the faculty of advanced training of medical workers of the same University Professor Mikhail Frolov, - our fellow countryman. He was born in the village in the South of Bashkortostan, graduated from medical school in Salavat, but after the army entered the University of friendship of peoples. Here he defended his candidate thesis and then doctoral dissertation.
- With colleagues from the Ufa Institute scientists of our University are working closely, alwayskeep in touch, we also have joint research and development, particularly in the field of treatment of eye diseases in children.
