The report and the outcome of the conference East-West-2013
The conference was held in plenary sessions and satellite symposia in parallel in several rooms. The participants of the conference marked a clear organization of demonstration operations, breakout sessions on the most relevant topics, discussions with the participation of highly qualified clinicians and scientists in the field of ophthalmic surgery.
The conference was an exhibition of medical equipment and products of pharmaceutical companies.
Sounded 91 report of the specialists of leading Russian and foreign clinics and research institutes of scientific level on the most pressing problems of ophthalmology: femtosecond laser cataract surgery, refractive surgery, treatment of retinal diseases and optic nerve injury and inflammatory eye diseases, pediatric ophthalmopathology. Was are 29 poster presentations, the best works were awarded with diplomas.
Of particular interest was the lecture session of the Department of ophthalmology of the national University of Chiba (Japan) "Neuroprotection: from fundamentals to practice" with participation of leading scientists. The delegation was headed by head of the Department of ophthalmology and research vision, the Vice-Director of Chiba University hospital, Professor Shuichi Yamamoto (Chiba University ranks in the top five in the ranking of Japanese universities). Research is so significantJapanese representation at the conference are fundamental and interesting in practical medicine. It is important that the composition of the research team for the second year running employee of the Ufa research Institute of eye diseases G. M. Bikbov: who presented the first results of a large experimental study on regeneration and restoration of the retinal fundus pathology.
One of the main tasks of Ufrii GB – active influence on the development of practical ophthalmology in Russia, ensuring the availability of modern high-tech surgery techniques to each citizen of the Republic. Therefore, each day of the conference traditionally started with a "live surgery"which included femtosecond cataract surgery, ultrasound phacoemulsification with implantation of the latest models of IOL, surgery for glaucoma. The surgeries were performed by the leading ophthalmic surgeons of our Institute, Russia, Germany.
The emphasis on technical aspects of surgery, during the operation it was a dialogue with surgeons, marked innovations in surgical technique, discussion of the features and detail. It is a real school, specifying the individual nuances of the surgical technique for the growth and improvement of surgeons, young professionals.
Indian colleagues not only presented oral reports at the meetings and satellite symposia, and participated in an organized live teleconference Ufa (Russia) - Chennai (India), during which the ophthalmologists of Russia and India shared the latest achievements in the field of treatment of eye diseases.
The new work of the conference was the lecture session Ufrii GB in 3D on the challenges of AMD treatment, femtosecond laser cataract surgery and femtolasik technologies in refractive disorders.
For the first time the conference was held a visiting session of the Presidium of the Board of the society of ophthalmologists of Russia, inwhich was attended by leading ophthalmologists of the country. Held a meeting of the Association of heads of ophthalmologic clinics of Russia, which unites chief physicians, Directors of institutes and clinics, which were considered relevant organizational issues.
Guests were offered an interesting cultural program including sightseeing tours of Ufa, acquaintance with the sights of the Republic.
The concert program featured a special flavor of the State academic ensemble of folk dance named after Faizi Gaskarov.
The main result of the forum the possibility of growth of professional skills of ophthalmic surgeons, the exchange of clinical experience and modern scientific and practical achievements, the establishment of professional relationships, strengthening contacts with foreign scientists to conduct joint research to improve healthcare and ophthalmology in particular. Held debates and discussions on the sidelines are sometimes more valuable than many lectures.
The arrival of a large number of ophthalmologists from almost all regions of Russia, CIS and far abroad is evidence of the high level of scientific research, Ufa research Institute of eye diseases, recognition of the authority of the Russian and international ophthalmology community.
