Participation of Ufa Eye Research Institute in scientific and practical conference "Topical issues of ophthalmology", Baku, Azerbaijan.

On April 28, 2017, Baku, Azerbaijan, held the scientific and practical conference "Topical issues of ophthalmology" dedicated to the 94th anniversary of academician Z. Alieva on the basis of the National Ophthalmic Center.
The conference was attended by specialists from Azerbaijan, Russia (St. Petersburg, Ufa) and considered current problems of modern ophthalmology.
The delegation of Ufa Research Institute headed by the Director, Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan prof. M.Bikbov visited Baku and the National Center and also took an active part in the work of the conference.
During the meeting, prof. M. Bikbov and the director of National Ophthalmic Center n.a. Z. Aliyeva prof. E. Kasimov came to a decision of bilateral cooperation between the institutions and the exchange of experience, including postgraduate education.

Within the scientific program of the conference prof. M. Bikbov presented a program report on corneal crosslinking in the aspect of its evolutionary development. In view of the wide popularity of this method throughout the world including Azerbaijan, the report aroused great interest. Leading research scientist of Corneal and Lens Surgery Department, Ph.D. E. Usubov reported the results of study of femtolaser technology on "The current stage of keratoplasty development" and "Femtosecond laser - assisted cataract surgery." The wide application of femtosecond laser technologies in the routine practice of ophthalmologists of Ufa Eye Research Institute in performing keratoplasty and cataract phacoemulsification did not leave indifferent the Azerbaijani colleagues and served as a reason for heated discussions and positive feedback about our work.
         The conference and the whole trip filled us with impressions and plans for further close cooperation and active participation in such scientific events.
