The regular meeting of the Bashkir regional branch of Russian Society of Ophthalmologists, and the All-Russian public organization "Association of Ophthalmologists"


On April 7, 2017 in Ufa, under the guidance of Russian Society of Ophthalmologists and the Interregional Public Organization "Association of Paediatric Ophthalmologists" held a scientific and practical conference "Children's ophthalmology: results and prospects." The conference was held within the framework of the forum "Health Week in the Republic of Bashkortostan", and about 250 ophthalmologists from Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaluga, Samara, Orenburg, Ulyanovsk, Kazan, etc.) and the Republic of Bashkortostan took part in its work.

At the registration each participant of the conference received a questionnaire containing questions on the subjects of the lectures and presented reports and options for answers, as well as a questionnaire on the evaluation of the organization of educational material, content of lectures and the possibility of applying the knowledge gained in practice, and the quality of speeches delivered by the speakers.

The initiators of this scientific and educational project are Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology of Pediatric Faculty of Russian National Research Medical University n.a. N.I. Pirogov (Moscow) E. Sidorenko and the head of the Department of Microsurgery and Functional Rehabilitation of the Eye in Children of Federal State Independent Institution "S.N. Fedorov Eye Microsurgery Complex.

The director of Ufa Eye Research Institute, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor M. Bikbov made a welcome speech for the conference participants and briefly presented the results of ophthalmic service of the Republic of Bashkortostan in 2016. Prof. M.M. Bikbov announced the results of the competition between ophthalmologists of the Republic. P. Gorozhankina (Ufa) won the nomination "Best Pediatric Ophthalmologist". and received a merit certificate and a valuable gift. About 100 specialists, who showed the best results in 2016, were awarded certificates and gifts.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Bashkortostan E. Sirtlanova who in her speech highly appreciated the contribution of Ufa Eye Research Institute headed by its director M. Bikbov in development of children's ophthalmic service of the Republic. Elza Sirtlanova on behalf of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Bashkortostan congratulated Mukharram Bikbov on his anniversary and handed over the testimonial.

The program of the conference was presented by lectures of famous pediatric ophthalmologists of Russia who highlighted the issues of diagnostics and treatment of the most urgent eye diseases in children at the present stage. Much attention was paid to the aspects of early diagnosis and timely treatment of such severe eye diseases as retinopathy of prematurity which today is the most common cause of blindness and disability from early childhood. The ophthalmologist of the 1st Microsurgery Department A. Faizullina presented a report on diagnostics and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity at Ufa Eye Research Institute.

Treatment of inflammatory eye diseases in children remains an important problem at the present stage. Questions of early diagnosis, rational pharmacotherapy and prevention of relapses of inflammatory eye diseases in children were covered in the lecture of prof. E. Markova (Moscow) in which the author dwelled on etiological and pathogenetic aspects of this problem.

The lecture of the head of Ophthalmology Department of St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy, MD, Professor V.Brzhesky was devoted to the main stages of elimination of lacrimation in congenital stenosis of nasolacrimal duct in children.

The conference was held in a businesslike atmosphere, with an active and lively discussion of reports. The knowledge obtained by ophthalmologists will help them in their daily practical activities in provision of medical care to children with eye pathology.
