Laser Department of Ufa Eye Research Institute was founded in 1983 and consists of 3 ophthalmologists. The Department is fitted with modern equipment of domestic and foreign production.

Laser treatment is used for more than 40 eye diseases:

  • diabetic retinopathy,
  • thrombosis of the central retinal vein and its branches,
  • central and peripheral retinal degeneration,
  • inflammatory diseases of the retina and choroid,
  • breaks and retinal detachment,
  • retinopathy of prematurity, secondary cataracts,
  • glaucoma

A valuable advantage of laser coagulation is that it’s bloodless, quick, causes minimal trauma to eye tissue and well tolerated by patients. Noninvasive laser surgery without opening the wall of the eyeball helps to avoid complications and perform  surgery on an outpatient basis. The stimulation of visual functions of the retina under the influence of weak laser energy in amblyopia, optic nerve atrophy, dry macular degeneration, etc.  are of the utmost interest. 

Nowadays the Department has all modern techniques of laser treatment:

  • laser coagulation of retina in diabetic retinopathy,
  • laser coagulation of retina in retinal vein thrombosis,
  • peripheral preventive laser coagulation of retina in peripheral vitreochorioretinal dystrophy
  • laser coagulation for central serous chorioretinopathy,
  • laser coagulation of retina for retinal angiomatosis,
  • laser coagulation for   choroidal neovascularization,
  • laser coagulation for complications during various inflammatory retinal diseases (in the course of medical resolution of infection)
  • laser interference with extensive pre- and retinal hemorrhages of different etiology,
  • laser manipulation for various post-traumatic conditions of the retina and choroid.

In pathology of anterior eye segment:

  • laser discission of secondary cataract in pseudophakic and aphakic eyes (with the use of YAG-laser)
  • laser iridectomy,
  • laser goniopuncture (additional procedure in case of insufficient effect of nonpenetrationg surgery) ,
  • laser trabeculoplasty,
  • reconstructive surgeries for anterior eye segment. 

Every year doctors of Laser Department deliver consultative and medical assistance to more than 10 thousand patients from the Republic of Bashkortostan and other regions of Russia. Laser Department is in close coordination with the scientific staff of the Department of Vitreoretinal and Laser Surgery, ophthalmologists of IV microsurgical department and Adult Outpatient Department, it plays a key role in the provision of specialized care to patients with diabetes.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) of retina allows to diagnose subtle changes in retinal structure which lie beyond the resolution of other research methods and simply invisible in funduscopy.. The method is non-contact; the procedure is safe and painless. Ufa Eye Research Institute uses modern optical coherence tomography of a new generation фото 5 Retina Scan - 3000 (NIDEK). It has high speed (53 000 A-scan / sec), high resolution (8-10 micrometers), large regulatory framework, user-friendly software; allows to expand the study protocol and increase the accuracy of assessing the structures of the fundus.

Laser system NIDEК GYC.1000 with HБО Heine (532 nm) and laser system Lumenis novus spectra(531 nm) allows to perform surgeries on the eye fundus for diabetic angioretinopathy, high degree myopia, dystrophic and inflammatory changes. High resolution capacity and wide range of contact lenses helps to facilitate the work of surgeon. 

Photocoagulator Quantel Medical (810 nm) Supra T 810 has a number of advantages: it is not absorbed by hemoglobin and xanthophyll (yellow) pigment, has low absorption by melanin, well goes through hemorrhage and penetrates deeply into the sclera.

It is intended for retinal photocoagulation, laser trabeculoplasty, transscleral cyclophotocoagulation, transscleral retinal photocoagulation. 

 

APPA YAG Laser (1064 nm) is used forsecondary cataract, punching of opacity posterior capsule of the lens after extracapsular cataract extraction and for treatment of narrow-angle (iridectomy) and narrow-angle glaucoma (goniopuncture).

Multicolor Scan Laser Photocoagulator

NIDEK MC-500 consists of 3 lasers with various wavelength and allows performing surgical interventions almost in all types offundus pathology of retina, reduces the time of surgery and risk of complications.
