PRIORITY BRANCHES OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
Methods of less-invasive cataract ultrasonic surgery.
Reconstructive treatment system of refraction anomalies and corneal pathology.
Pathogenesis, diagnostics and treatment of the congenital and acquired eye pathology in children.
Surgical and laser methods of rehabilitation of patients with retina and vitreous body diseases.
Pathogenetic technologies in glaucoma surgery and methods of prophylaxis.
Pathogenesis, diagnostics, prophylaxis and treatment of inflammatory eye diseases.
Products for medical usage (intra-ocular and contact lenses, visco-elastic material, transplants for ophthalmosurgery);
Early diagnostics of ophthalmooncology diseases.
There is dissertational council, clinical internship, postgraduate study, and educational department on the basis of the institute.
CLINIC
7 microsurgical departments, adult and children's outpatient departments, department of functional diagnostics; the regional laser ophthalmologic centre, offices for laser and contact correction of vision, department for emergency eye treatment and ophthalmosurgery. Hospital for 310 beds, including 52 beds for children. Personnel - 82 doctors: 1 academician, 8 Doctors of Medical science, 31 doctors are Candidates of Medical science and 3 doctors are Candidates of Biological science, 50 ophthalmologists with excellent qualification, 18 doctors are Honoured Doctors of the Republic of Bashkortostan and of the Russian Federation.
OUTPATIENT-POLYCLINIC SERVICE
Outpatient-polyclinic department provides consultations and diagnostics of the following eye diseases: cataract, glaucoma, retinal detachment, diabetic eye lesions, eye traumas, uveitis, cornea and eye fundus diseases of an inflammatory, vascular and trophic genesis, refraction anomaly, strabismus, oncological lesions, etc.The treatment is provided in pleoptics and orthoptic and laser offices.
DIAGNOSTIC AND SURGERY DEPARTMENT OF FUNCTIONAL DIAGNOSTICS

Echo-scan Nidec US-3300 (Japan), computer perimeter Dicon (USA), the analyzer of visiual field (Appa Perimetr AP-901), neuroretinograph Nihon Kohden (Japan), biometers Quantel Medical (France), Humphrey (Canada), biopachimeterTomey (Japan), noncontact tonometer Nidek (Japan), tonometer-tonograph, macular tester, light tester, retinograph Heidelberg HRT 3, optical coherent tomograph (Visante ОСТ) et al. are used for medical examinations of patients in the functional diagnostics department. Sutureless microincisional phacoemulsification with technique of small tunnel incisions (1,5-3,0 mm) including torsional technique (Ozil (Alcon)) with implantation of foldable IOL (Alcon, Bausch&Lomb, Rayner) is carried out. Refractive lensectomy for correction of high level ametropy and phachic IOL (ICL (STAAR)) implantation are performed in the department.
CORNEA SURGERY
A treating complex for cornea dystrophic diseases such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal corneal degeneration, bullous keratopathy is developed. Such methods, as collagen-crosslinking, implantation of intrastromal corneal segments, penetrating keratoplasty and epikeratoplasty are widely applied.
VITREORETINAL AND LASER SURGERY
Scientific and 4th microsurgical departments, the regional laser centre are combined to solve scientific and practical problems of the vitreoretinal surgery.
Priority branches of scientific activity:
-pathogenetical mechanisms of the vitreoretinal roliferations foreye diseases and traumas;
- vitreoretinal techniques for retinal detachment, diabetic macularedemasand age-related maculardegeneration;
-cellular transplantation techniques for vitreoretinal pathologies;
- role of the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors in the pathogenesis of proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
GLAUCOMA SURGERY
Pathogenetical surgical treatment of glaucoma is performed in the microsurgical departments. Primary surgery for glaucoma treatment: deep sclerectomy (penetrating and nonpenetrating), sinusotrabeculectomy, iridocycloretraction.
OPERATIN UNIT

The operating unit is equipped with microscopes «Carl Zeiss», «Takagi», «Topcon»; phacoemulsificators «Legacy», «Infinity», «Accurus» (Alcon); «Millenium» (Bausch and Lomb), «Assistant» (Opticon).
CONFERENCES, SEMINARS AND COURSES
On September 21st, 2007 Scientific and practical conference of young researchers «Innovative Techniques in Ophthalmology» was held on the basis of the state institution «Ufa eye research institute». More than 170 people took part in the conference work. Young researchers from our institute and researchers from different cities of Russia made presentations.

61. DETACHMENT COURSES with International Faculty PRIMARY RETINAL DETACHMENT: Diagnostics and Present Options for Repair
On May 29-31, 2008 international scientific and practical conference «Advanced Techniques for the treatment of anterior and posterior chambers of an eye» followed by «61 Detachment courses «Primary Retinal Detachment: Diagnostics and Present Options for Repair» was held on the basis of the Ufa Eye Research Institute. More than 400 specialists from Russia, Italy, Japan and Germany participated in the conference and courses.
